Applied Linguistics Inquiry acknowledges the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scholarly publishing. We are committed to its responsible use and have established the following policies for authors, reviewers, and editors, in alignment with COPE and WAME guidelines.
For Authors:
Disclosure: The use of any AI tools (such as Large Language Models or image generators) in the preparation of a manuscript must be transparently disclosed in the Methods or Acknowledgments section. This disclosure should specify the tool used and how it was applied.
Accountability: Authors remain fully responsible and accountable for the accuracy, integrity, and originality of all content, including any text or images assisted by AI.
Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed as an author or co-author, as they cannot take responsibility for the work.
Images: The journal does not permit the use of AI-generated images in its publications unless it is a formal part of the research methodology. Any such use must be clearly labeled as AI-generated.
For Reviewers and Editors:
Confidentiality: Reviewers and editors must not upload any part of a manuscript into generative AI tools. This is to protect the confidentiality of the authors' work and prevent infringement of proprietary rights.
Decision-Making: AI tools must not be used to support the evaluation or editorial decision-making process. These responsibilities rest solely with human experts who can apply critical thinking and nuanced judgment.
