Aims and Scope

Applied Linguistics Inquiry (ALI) is a premier international forum for the publication of original research that advances the theoretical and practical understanding of applied linguistics. The journal's mission is to foster a vibrant scholarly dialogue among researchers, educators, and practitioners across diverse global contexts.

The scope of ALI is comprehensive, encompassing a wide range of topics within the field. We have a particular interest in manuscripts that address the following themes:

  • First and Second Language Acquisition

  • Language Teacher Education, Development, and Evaluation

  • Materials Design and Curriculum Development

  • Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL)

  • The Psychology and Sociology of Language Learning and Teaching

  • Language Assessment and Testing

  • Discourse and Conversation Analysis

  • Translation and Interpretation Studies

  • Instructional Methods and Pedagogical Innovation

ALI publishes original empirical research, in-depth conceptual and theoretical analyses, systematic reviews, and scholarly book reviews. The journal serves a broad readership, including academic researchers, postgraduate students, language educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers. Manuscripts that are purely descriptive or lack a strong theoretical or methodological foundation fall outside the journal's scope.
